A New Capability in the Built Environment Platform

Astra Holding has acquired DNH Construction Limited (“DNH”), an insurance reinstatement contractor based in Plymouth, Devon.

Founded in 1987 by David Holmes, DNH has spent almost forty years repairing and restoring properties damaged by fire, flood, storm and subsidence for the UK's largest insurers and loss adjusters. It has served several of them continuously for more than fifteen years. Alongside restoration work, DNH handles structural and subsidence repairs, drying services and asbestos surveys for domestic and commercial clients. It has grown steadily on the back of insurer relationships that take decades to earn.

This acquisition marks Astra's fifth platform business and introduces a new capability to our built environment portfolio. DNH joins Interdoor, Acorn MPS, AB Key and J Manny, adding specialist insurance reinstatement and restoration expertise alongside our existing work in industrial doors, M&E services and Security solutions, It also deepens our presence in the South West, following the acquisition of J Manny earlier this year.

Preserving Legacy, Driving Growth

Astra's model is simple: good businesses do best under long-term, patient ownership. We buy to hold, and we keep the brand, the team and the culture in place.

Simon Holmes has led DNH as Managing Director since 2019 and will continue to do so. He has been with the business over twenty years and is well known to insurers and loss adjusters across the South West. We look forward to growing DNH alongside him.

In Their Own Words

David and Dawn Holmes, shareholders of DNH, commented:

"DNH has been part of our family for almost forty years, and finding the right long-term home for it mattered to us more than anything else in this process. Astra understood from the first conversation that what makes this business valuable isn't just the numbers — it's the relationships with insurers built over decades, and the team who show up and deliver, year after year. Knowing that Simon will continue to lead the business, and that its name and its people will endure, gives us real peace of mind as we step back."

Simon Holmes, Managing Director of DNH, added:

"We've built our reputation one job, one insurer relationship, at a time — response, reliability, and doing what we say we'll do. Astra's long-term approach means we can keep investing in exactly that, while finally having the backing to go after the commercial and national opportunities we've had to leave on the table until now. I'm looking forward to building the next chapter with the same team that got us here."

Amit Rai and Sergey Sushentsev, Co-Founders of Astra Holding Group, commented:

"DNH's standing with its insurers took decades to earn. We're proud to become custodians of what David and Dawn built and Simon has grown, and we'll back the team as they take DNH into new markets and geographies."

Looking Ahead

Astra will work with Simon and the DNH team to grow across the South West, deepen existing insurer relationships, and invest in the systems and capacity needed to expand. The foundation is already there: the accreditations, the processes and most importantly a skilled and committed team.

We are still looking for UK SMEs that lead their field, are facing succession, and want a permanent home. If you are an owner, adviser or lender with a business that fits, we'd like to hear from you, contact us at contact@astraholding.uk or check out our referral Scout program.
